Tips and Tricks To Wear Your Favorite Skirt In Colder Temps

The temperatures have been dropping and are continuing to drop—it’s safe to say another cold season is upon us. When fall and winter greet us, there’s a notion that skirts are somewhat ‘off-limits’ to wear. Like a forbidden fruit, they’re stowed away until spring returns. But, in reality, we’re not going to let the weather ruin the chance of a great outfit. Here are some tips and tricks to pull off your favorite skirt with comfort and ease when it’s a bit, or whole lot, chilly outside.

Pair your skirt with knee-high or over-the-knee boots

Where functionality meets fashion, knee-high or over-the-knee boots are the perfect way to ward off the cold in style. For shorter skirts, I would opt for an over-the-knee boot, and for midi and maxi skirts, a great knee-high boot. They give your look a chic feel, while adding another layer of warmth to your legs. That’s a win-win in my book!

Accent your skirt with tights, stockings or fashionable socks

Transition your skirt to fall and winter weather by accessorizing with a cute pair of tights or socks. These can add another element to your outfit and help you achieve optimal warmth. Let your creativity flow by mixing and matching different prints and colors. Asos and Urban Outfitters usually have great selections when it comes to this.

Layer, layer, layer

To make up for a more exposed bottom half, layer up as much as you can on your top half. In the winter, my go-to ensemble is pairing a skirt with a comfy sweater or thick cardigan. For extra security and warmth, cozy jackets and coats are welcome. For this look, I styled a pleated midi skirt with a sweater and checked blazer. I tied everything together with a chain belt I scored recently while thrifting. It helped elevate my look by contributing another great texture.
